Job Vacancy Details

Under general supervision, the VISIONS Program Coordinator will provide holistic, continuous support to students in the VISIONS Career Development and Scholarship Program from high school (junior year) through college completion. The coordinator will collaborate with high school personnel and college departments to recruit eligible students, monitor academic progress, facilitate mentoring and tutoring services, and support students in their academic, personal, and career development. The coordinator will assist with transitioning students from high school to Pitt Community College and will continue to support them through orientation, advising and retention efforts in college. This position is grant-funded by the Eddie and Jo Allison Smith Family Foundation and may require participation in events during evenings and weekends.

What Youll Do

Student Recruitment and High School Engagement:

  • Identify and recruit eligible high school juniors with assistance from school counselors and Career Development Coordinators.
  • Establish supportive relationships with students and their families.
  • Plan and facilitate events, such as: New Student and Parent Orientations, VISIONS Summer Institute, Financial Aid and College Admissions Seminars, Success Seminars.

Student Advising and Academic Planning:

  • Create and maintain academic, financial, and career plans for all students.
  • Teach students to use the PCC Student Portal and other IT resources.
  • Assist students with course selection, scheduling, and progression toward high school graduation and college credentials.
  • Conduct regular academic progress reviews and mid-semester checks.
  • Advise students on degree, certificate, transfer, and career pathway options.
  • Support students through PCC onboarding, including New Student Orientation, Add/Drop, and registration periods.

Mentoring and Student Support Services:

  • Provide or coordinate tutoring, mentoring, and life skills coaching.
  • Refer students to appropriate internal and external resources.
  • Offer guidance on job readiness, resume building, and employment applications.
  • Address crisis situations and barriers to student success.

Collaboration and Program Development:

  • Collaborate with PCC departments and community resources.
  • Support Student Success initiatives aligned with the College's Strategic Plan.
  • Contribute to budget planning and program improvement.
  • Maintain a detailed student database and prepare reports.

Event Planning and Community Engagement:

  • Organize and facilitate VISIONS program events and workshops.
  • Participate in fundraising and outreach events hosted by Institutional Advancement.

Administrative Duties:

  • Collect and analyze data for program reporting and improvement.
  • Adhere to all PCC and Pitt County Schools policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working with high school and/or college students, especially special populations (low-income, first generation)
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and crisis-management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with advising, teaching or student support services

Additional Information

Work Environment: Includes high school campuses, college offices, classrooms, and community locations within the College's service area. Requires frequent interaction with high school students, college students, parents/guardians, faculty, school counselors, and community partners. Works closely with departments across the College and County Schools.The position involves extensive use of student information systems, databases, and communication tools to track student progress, maintain records, and generate reports. Work is mission-driven and fast-paced, often requiring the ability to manage multiple students, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously. Must exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling confidential student information in accordance with FERPA and institutional policies.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods across school and campus locations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including facilitating workshops and advising sessions
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of materials (e.g., program materials, event supplies) up to 25 pounds
  • Frequent travel between high schools, campus locations, and community sites; must be able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Occasional bending, reaching, or setting up materials for events and workshops
  • Visual ability to read student records, reports, and electronic communications
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to manage program materials and technology tools

Normal Working Hours: Standard schedule, Monday - Friday; weekend and evening hours are occasionally required to support program events, including student and parent meetings, workshops and other outreach activities
