Title: Visiting Assistant Professor Chemistry

The Natural and Behavioral Sciences division seeks qualified candidates for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Chemistry to teach 4 courses in Fall 2026 and 4 courses in Spring 2027. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. The successful candidate may be required to teach courses outside the major in support of the colleges general education program.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate-level courses including:

• College Chemistry • Organic Chemistry • Biochemistry • Associated labs

Make appropriate preparations for the semester including:

• Syllabus preparation • Textbook adoptions • Preparation of lectures • Preparation of tests and assignments as needed • Appropriate course material revision when needed • Provision of measurable objectives for student performance

Communicate effectively with students inside and outside of class.

Participate in the development of program and course level assessment protocols, curricular planning, and academic advisement of students in the program.

Work collaboratively in the division that serves several majors and minors.

Represent divisional programs to support admissions events such as Open House and campus tours.

Engage in developing collaborations and networks of support across the campus and with programs at other institutions.

Maintain office hours, attend divisional and faculty senate meetings, and serve on divisional and college committees.

Stay current in the field of expertise.

Perform other teaching and divisional responsibilities as assigned by the Chair.

Full-time faculty appointments are for a ten-month period, and the standard teaching load is twelve credit hours per semester.

Job Requirements

Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.

Proficient computer skills and the ability to deliver instruction in a variety of learning management platforms such as Blackboard.

Mentoring undergraduate student research.

Strong and empathetic communication skills and strong collaboration skills.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence and emotional intelligence.

Demonstrated commitment to the colleges core Franciscan values.

Minimum Qualifications

A masters degree in chemistry or a related field is required. A Ph.D. is preferred but not required. Doctoral ABD candidates are encouraged to apply.

1-3 years of demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Experience in mentoring undergraduate research.

Compensation: $50,000.00 (This is the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of posting. An employees pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and organizational needs.)
