Penn Medicine has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, progressive Talent Acquisition leader to join us as our Vice President of Talent Acquisition (VP TA). Reporting to the System CHRO, the VP TA serves as the enterprise leader responsible for shaping and elevating Penn Medicine's talent acquisition strategy, workforce acquisition approach and long-term talent pipeline capabilities. This role represents a unique opportunity to design the future of talent at a leading academic medical center by introducing bold ideas, strengthening core practices and setting new standards for how healthcare attracts, engages and hires exceptional talent.
As VP TA, you will provide strategic leadership for enterprise talent acquisition, ensuring that the organization can proactively attract, engage and hire the talent required to support clinical excellence, research, education and operational performance. This key leadership role serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on workforce trends, talent availability, labor market dynamics, workforce risks and critical talent strategies while establishing the vision, governance and performance expectations for the Talent Acquisition function. You will lead the ongoing evolution of Penn Medicine's talent acquisition approach, ensuring that it is efficient, candidate-centered, data-driven and aligned with the health system's strategic workforce priorities. As a member of the HR Leadership Team, the VP TA provides long-term vision and leadership for the TA function, fostering a culture of innovation, diversity, excellence and continuous improvement.
Location: This position is remote but requires the ability to be onsite in the greater Philadelphia area for meetings and events as needed.
Accountabilities
Enterprise TA Strategy and Workforce Partnership
- Define and lead the enterprise TA strategy in alignment with organizational growth plans, workforce priorities and long-term business objectives.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on workforce trends, labor market conditions, talent availability, workforce risks and emerging talent challenges.
- Partner with Workforce Planning, HRBPs, Compensation and operational leaders to anticipate workforce needs and develop proactive talent strategies.
- Align talent acquisition priorities with enterprise workforce plans, succession considerations, critical skills needs and organizational growth initiatives.
- Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous improvement and workforce-focused decision-making across the TA function.
Talent Intelligence, Workforce Insights and Market Strategy
- Establish a talent intelligence capability that leverages labor market data, competitive benchmarking, workforce analytics and recruiting insights to inform workforce decisions.
- Translate market intelligence into enterprise talent strategies that address critical workforce gaps, talent shortages and evolving labor market conditions.
- Advise leadership on talent acquisition implications of workforce plans, organizational changes, clinical expansion initiatives and emerging workforce challenges.
- Identify workforce risks and opportunities and develop enterprise talent strategies to support organizational resilience and future workforce readiness.
Sourcing, Talent Pipelines and Recruitment Marketing
- Build and lead an enterprise sourcing capability to proactively identify and engage talent for critical roles.
- Oversee the development of recruitment marketing strategies that enhance Penn Medicine's employer brand and expand reach through digital channels and targeted campaigns.
- Implement a candidate relationship management approach to nurture talent pipelines and maintain engagement over time.
- Strengthen partnerships with universities, training programs, community organizations and diversity-focused partners to widen and diversify pipelines.
- Ensure talent attraction strategies support diversity, workforce sustainability and long-term organizational talent needs.
- Embed data-driven decision-making into sourcing and marketing strategies to improve effectiveness and ROI.
- Build leadership capability within the TA function and develop future Talent Acquisition leaders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline required
- Master's Degree preferred
- 10+ years of progressive TA leadership experience within large, complex organizations required; healthcare preferred
- Proven experience with high volume and niche recruiting and thinking outside the box to identify creative sourcing solutions
- Proven experience transforming TA structures, processes and technology
- Experience leading large teams and developing high-performing recruitment organizations
- Track record as a visionary, disruptor or thought leader, especially in high-growth environments
- Deep knowledge of ATS, CRM, sourcing tools and recruitment marketing strategies
- Demonstrated ability to use analytics to drive decisions and operational improvements
- Strong partnership skills with ability to work with HR, operational leaders and executive stakeholders across a large organization
