Job Summary:

The Vice President, Revenue Cycle will serve as a strategic and operational finance leader to promote financial sustainability and support the Wellstar Hospitals in achieving their aggressive growth objectives. The Vice President will work collaboratively with system and hospital leadership as well as the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees.

The Vice President will oversee the following:

  • Patient Access Services

  • Revenue Cycle Operations

  • Denials

  • Billing

  • Posting

  • Insurance Management

  • Patient Financial Services Customer Service

  • Collections

  • Reimbursement

  • Charge Master Management

The Vice President will serve within a highly visible role within the health system relating to presenting financials, developing multi-year practice strategic plans and annual goals, and supporting operational processes that promote financial stewardship as well as avenues for enhancement. This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Finance of the Health System. Responsible for the overall control of hospital cash flow for 11 Hospitals and the entire hospital revenue cycle operations.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Revenue Cycle Operations

  • Ensures the efficient operation of all aspects of Hospital Revenue Cycle operate to assure the collection of of Net Revenue
  • Responsible for operational Oversight of the following:

a. Patient Access Services

b. Revenue Cycle Operations

c. Denials Management

d. Bad Debt Control

e. Billing

f. Posting

g. Insurance Management

h. Financial Counseling

i. Patient Financial Services Customer Service

j. Collections

k. Reimbursement

l. Charge Master Management

  • Serves as subject matter expert and liaison with Federal and State entities, Managed Care payers, physicians and others to facilitate accurate and fast claims processing. Communications include the State Legislature, the Insurance Commissioners Office, Medicare/CMS Fraud Unit, State Department of Human Services, the Department of Family and Childrens Services, and payers related to patient financial services.

Maintains close contact with all sub-groups within the Revenue Cycle, including all departments which effect cash flow, hospital CFOs and Presidents, etc.

  • Ensures monitoring of all metrics related to hospital revenue cycle.
  • Creates committees and task forces as necessary for hospital revenue cycle improvements
  • Meets routinely with hospital customers related to patient access services and revenue cycle
  • Responsible for all Revenue Cycle Key Performance Indicators

Performs other duties as assigned

Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Networking, Communications & Strategy

  • Maintains close industry connections related to all areas of responsibility
  • Provides reports to the Board of Trustees routinely regarding revenue cycle performance
  • Creates innovation in revenue cycle practices
  • Interfaces with the financial leaders of the WellStar Medical Group
  • Provides strategic and operational leader ship to promote financial sustainability and support the Wellstar Hospitals in achieving their aggressive growth objectives.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Master's Degree with emphasis in Hospital Administration or Business Administration preferred.

Required Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years Revenue Cycle Management, Patient Financial, Patient Access, Reimbursement, and other related fields required.
  • VP of Revenue Cycle experience preferred.

Required Minimum Skills:

  • Must be knowledgeable in the use of legacy systems, such as McKesson STAR.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and in particular, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Must be capable in Public Speaking, must be highly organized, able to perform efficiency analysis, excellent at process improvement, good at boosting employee morale, and generally a coach, mentor, and cheerleader.
  • Must be able to see the Big Picture and act quickly and responsibly to make certain WellStar collects of the revenue due to the organization.
  • Protects patient confidentiality and assists Compliance to assure compliance with all regulations and laws.
