This position will serve as the organizations incident co-commander, alongside the Senior Vice President of Operations during significant emergency events and organizational crises.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization's emergency preparedness and disaster response program across all Communities and operations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized emergency response plans and protocols for natural disasters, utility failures, infectious disease outbreaks, hazardous material incidents, active threats, evacuations, shelter-in-place events, and other emergencies.
  • Establish and maintain an enterprise incident command structure that effectively supports Community-level events through multi-site regional crises.
  • Coordinate emergency response resources across Operations, Clinical, Facilities, and Executive Leadership during active incidents.
  • Lead post-incident reviews, identify root causes, develop corrective action plans, and ensure identified improvements are implemented and monitored.
  • Establish safety standards with particular attention to vulnerable populations and high-acuity residents by partnering with leadership to ensure compliance with life safety requirements, fall management, infection control protocols, and environmental risk reduction initiatives.
  • Serve as the internal expert on emergency preparedness requirements and applicable federal, state, and local life safety regulations.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise business continuity plans in partnership with Information Technology, Facilities, and Clinical teams.
  • Establish critical vendor relationships and emergency resource agreements to ensure operational continuity and supply chain resilience during emergencies.
  • Design and monitor emergency preparedness training programs, including required Community drills, exercises, and tabletop simulations that strengthen crisis decision-making and cross-functional coordination.
  • Create scalable communication templates, response playbooks, and rapid-decision tools for Community leaders.
  • Provide real-time operational assessments and decision support to executive leadership during emergency events.
  • Coordinate cross-functional crisis response teams and ensure unified command across departments.
  • Partner with Communications and Legal to support accurate, timely, and consistent internal and external crisis communications.
  • Maintain executive-level reporting on enterprise safety risks, preparedness program performance, and incident trends.
  • Able to travel based on need and priority. Adhere to Company travel policies and guidelines.
  • As required by state licensure, complete annual and monthly training, attend scheduled in-services and mandatory meetings. Maintain all required certifications/licensures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer ten (10) or more years of progressive leadership in emergency management, enterprise safety, disaster preparedness, business continuity, or closely related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational response during real, high-impact emergency events, not only exercises.
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory and life safety requirements in healthcare or senior living environments.
  • Track record of building enterprise-scale programs in complex, multi-site organizations.
  • Experience operating at the executive level, advising senior leadership, owning enterprise initiatives, and influencing without direct authority.
