Position Summary
The Vice President of Operations is responsible for the leadership of senior operations management and all frontline collection employees. In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing operational efficiency initiatives and programs within the Region. This position reports to the Regional Vice President and works with Home Office Operations Support to design, test, and implement processes and technologies to reduce cost and improve operating margins.
Key Responsibilities

- Responsible for hiring, goal setting, development, performance, and succession planning for all employees in their span of control to increase retention and engagement.
- Manages several senior operations leaders and frontline employees to provide a safe, customer-centric organization that aligns with our Core Values.
- Drives a higher standard in leadership and development of operations management, sales finance, and technical and frontline employees.
- Provides stabilizing and engaging support to employees of new acquisitions to integrate into our culture.
- Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency through operating equipment and process changes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Implements operational improvement plans or initiatives and prepares supporting analysis under the guidance of the RVP and SVP of Operations.
- Participates in the Service Management ERP selection, implementation, and ongoing support of all region field users.
- Leads the successful integration of all hauling company acquisitions within the region by participating in due diligence and completing the implementation planning template.
- Conducts monthly MOR meetings with each division in conjunction with the Region Controller and RVP.
- Executes programs to improve safety, DOT compliance, training, and turnover reduction.
- Drives the further development of standard operating practices for all lines of business.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of the Casella service offerings and related operational processes and equipment to support improvement plan development.
- Stays abreast of equipment developments and industry practices, including route optimization and opportunities for increased automation.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, Masters preferred in business management or equivalent experience, 10 years of operations or controller experience in the waste industry and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment. A valid driver's license with the ability to travel 50% of the time alone with periodic overnight travel is necessary.
Proven accountability for a multi-location multi-million dollar P&L, proven success at managing large groups of General Managers, Sales, Finance and Frontline employees.
Deep knowledge of the competition; is aware of how strategies and tactics work in the marketplace. Knowledgeable in current and future policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting the waste industry.
