Description
The Vice President of Accounting is a senior finance leader responsible for overseeing the firm’s accounting function, financial reporting integrity, technical accounting matters, and internal control environment. This role leads the accounting department and serves as a key strategic partner to the Chief Financial Officer, executive leadership team, and external auditors.
The Vice President of Accounting plays a critical role in supporting the firm’s continued growth, including acquisitions, asset purchases, and strategic transactions. This individual will oversee the development of scalable accounting processes, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP, and maintain strong financial governance across a multi entity organization.
This position requires deep technical accounting expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and experience operating in a high growth environment with increasing operational complexity.
Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership and Financial Reporting
- Lead and manage the accounting department including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and development of accounting personnel
- Establish clear expectations, accountability standards, and professional development pathways for accounting team members
- Oversee month end, quarter end, and year end close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
- Review and approve financial statements prepared in accordance with US GAAP
- Oversee consolidation and financial reporting across multiple legal entities
- Maintain financial reporting processes that support the firm’s continued growth and operational complexity
Technical Accounting and Financial Governance
- Serve as the firm’s technical accounting leader and oversee complex accounting matters including ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 810, ASC 805, ASC 718, ASC 470, and ASC 835
- Oversee accounting related to private company equity structures and complex capital arrangements
- Provide accounting guidance on partnership structures, holding company entities, and equity ownership arrangements
- Ensure accounting policies remain aligned with US GAAP and evolving regulatory requirements
- Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting
Mergers, Acquisitions, and Strategic Transactions
- Lead purchase accounting for acquisitions and strategic transactions
- Partner with Corporate Development and legal teams to evaluate accounting implications of prospective transactions
- Support valuation coordination, opening balance sheet preparation, and goodwill calculations for acquired entities
- Lead post acquisition accounting alignment and financial integration
Audit, Compliance, and Regulatory Support
- Coordinate and manage external audit processes and serve as the primary accounting liaison to auditors
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting and regulatory requirements applicable to RIAs and affiliated entities
- Serve as a key accounting contact during regulatory examinations and financial documentation requests
- Partner with external tax advisors and internal stakeholders on corporate and partnership tax matters
Process Improvement and Cross Functional Collaboration
- Design and implement scalable accounting processes and systems to support continued growth
- Drive automation and process improvement initiatives across accounting workflows
- Partner cross functionally with Compliance, Operations, Investments, and Technology to ensure financial data integrity across systems
- Provide financial insights and technical accounting guidance to executive leadership
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Ten or more years of progressive accounting experience including leadership responsibility
- Experience managing and developing accounting teams in a professional services or financial environment
- Significant experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, integrations, or strategic transactions
- Deep technical expertise in US GAAP including areas such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, consolidation, and business combinations
- Experience managing financial reporting across multi entity organizations and complex organizational structures
- Experience designing and maintaining internal control environments
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial reporting platforms
Preferred Experience
- Experience within a Registered Investment Advisor platform, wealth management firm, financial services organization, or public accounting firm
- Prior experience supporting acquisition driven or high growth organizations
- CPA designation
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Location / Schedule
- This position will be located in Kansas City, KS
- Working hours are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday
- Occasional evening/weekend hours may be requested per business need
- Ability to travel up to 15%
Job Type
- Full-time, Exempt
- $150,000-$200,000 base per year, dependent on experience, with additional semi-annual performance bonus opportunities
