Description

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking a dynamic Vice President, Major Gifts to serve as a key leader within the Development organization and help drive the next phase of transformational philanthropic growth. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role will lead the strategy, execution, and expansion of a national major gifts program focused on significantly increasing principal and major gift revenue through thoughtful donor engagement, disciplined pipeline management, and collaborative fundraising leadership.

The next Vice President, Major Gifts will play a central role in helping redefine what is possible for philanthropic impact at the American Diabetes Association.

The Vice President, Major Gifts will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive major gifts growth strategy focused on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding high capacity donors capable of making six and seven figure investments. This leader will manage a personal portfolio of top prospects while also building systems, accountability, and fundraising discipline across the broader major gifts team.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and externally facing fundraising leader with demonstrated success securing transformational gifts, building high performing teams, and partnering effectively with executive leadership, volunteer leaders, and cross functional teams to advance organizational priorities. This individual will play a critical role in aligning donor passions with ADAs mission priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute a multi-year strategy to significantly grow major and principal gifts revenue
  • Build and manage a healthy pipeline of major gift prospects
  • Personally manage and solicit a portfolio of high-net-worth donors and prospects capable of six and seven figure gifts
  • Partner closely with executive leadership, board members, and volunteer leaders on donor strategy and relationship management
  • Create a culture of high performance, collaboration, accountability, and donor centered fundraising excellence
  • Strengthen moves management processes, prospect strategy, donor stewardship, and fundraising analytics
  • Collaborate across corporate relations, foundation relations, field development, and mission teams to create integrated donor opportunities
  • Help position ADA for future campaign readiness and transformational philanthropy growth
  • The ideal candidate will be highly strategic, results oriented, collaborative, and passionate about advancing the mission of the American Diabetes Association through philanthropy and donor engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization
  • Ten years of relevant professional experience, or a masters degree in a relevant area of study plus 8 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Must have at least 4 years of senior leadership/executive level experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Experience in high pace rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategically cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and principal (defined as $1 million +) donor prospects.
  • Accomplished oral and written communication skills and knowledge of capital campaigns.
  • Significant experience in both directly and indirectly managing people and resources.
  • Highly developed sense of collegiality and mentorship.
