The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of quality and safety and informatics. The selected candidate will also serve as the Vice Chair for Quality, Safety and Informatics in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. Rank will be commensurate with experience.



Teaching responsibilities may include an active role in the training of medical students, residents and fellows including participation in the formal curriculum.



Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient and/or ambulatory care in obstetrics and gynecology or a subspecialty of Ob/Gyn depending on the candidate’s expertise and interests.



The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology has established a leadership role for a Vice-chair of Quality and Safety and Informatics to promote the development and implementation of clinical and educational programs designed to promote a culture of safety and continuous quality improvement, and related scholarly activity.



We are seeking candidates who are dynamic and highly collaborative with strong leadership skills.



The responsibilities of the Vice-Chair of Quality and Safety and Informatics include the following:



• Oversee efforts to improve the culture of safety and continuous quality improvement

• Work with the Women’s Health Clinical Effectiveness Team, Ob and Gyn QI committee chairs, and the OB Patient Safety Committee, faculty and residents to develop and implement quality and safety initiatives, and to develop clinical guidelines and pathways to improve the quality and delivery of care

• Monitor quality metrics

• Serve as an advisor to the division chiefs/program directors on quality improvement in the CPUP ambulatory practices and inpatient services

• Assist the chairs at HUP and PAH with the development and implementation of risk reduction initiatives (RRI)

• Assist the residency program director to facilitate educational programs on quality and safety (i.e. monthly Quality Forum, resident lecture series)

• Promote and facilitate scholarship focused on quality, safety and health care delivery

• Work with Penn Medicine’s chief medical officer and vice-president for quality and safety to ensure alignment of our goals and to support system-wide initiatives to improve quality and safety

• Serve on the departmental claims review committee, executive committee, and Penn Ob/Gyn Simulation and Team Training Steering committee

• Work with the OBGYN chair, CIO, the CMIO and AVP of IT Informatics to evolve the clinical practice of medicine and enhance translational research with the Divisions and the Department through optimized use of technology

• Focus on developing strategies and optimizing the use of the EMR from the perspective of the end user

• Provide semi-annual or quarterly updates as needed on new technologies

• Lead implementation of major new technology initiatives in the health system

• Maintain the scope and quality of the projects

• Act as an escalation point for decision making

• Work with Epic representatives, leadership team and the operational areas to ensure the application meets the organization's business and clinical needs

• Ensure that the clinical and business communities are engaged in the project

• Drive decisions through governance committees

• Bring people to consensus across the organization



The Vice-chair will receive assistance from the department’s Perinatal Safety Nurse, Senior Process Improvement Advisor and Lead Epic Clinical Analyst.
