Position Overview:
The Shift Lead Technician is a leadership role responsible for the day-to-day coordination and supervision of the clinical support team during a designated shift. This role requires strong veterinary technical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced environment. The Shift Lead ensures smooth hospital flow, oversees team dynamics, supports client communication, and serves as a point person for floor management and case coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and support the veterinary technician and assistant team during assigned shifts
• Manage shift flow including patient triage, case assignments, and room/resource utilization
• Coordinate breaks, lunches, and staff coverage across departments to maintain efficient operations
• Serve as a liaison between support staff, doctors, and client service representatives
• Oversee and assist with patient care, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures as needed
• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members
• Facilitate clear and timely communication with clients, including updates, discharges, and education
• Monitor shift needs and escalate concerns to management when appropriate
• Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, safety standards, and cleanliness expectations
• Participate in daily rounds, meetings, and help maintain a positive team culture
Qualifications:
• Certified, Licensed, or Registered Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) required
• Minimum 3 years of clinical veterinary experience, preferably in emergency or specialty medicine
• Proven leadership abilities with strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain calm in high-pressure situations
• Strong technical and organizational skills, with a working knowledge of veterinary workflows
• Positive attitude and commitment to team success and patient-centered care
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
