Job Description

Come join our veterinary team at a newly renovated state-of-the-art facility dedicated to providing exceptional care for animals. At ABQ Petcare Hospital, we prioritize staff well-being and offer a supportive work environment with a focus on work-life balance. We are a five doctor practice that offers both general and urgent/emergent care. We are seeking an experienced or licensed Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team by April 2026.

As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in delivering top-notch care to our furry, feathered, and scaled patients.

Veterinary Technician Responsibilities & Duties

• Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgeries • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian • Perform routine laboratory procedures such as blood draws, urinalysis, and fecal exams • Collect and perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, and tissue samples • Monitor anesthesia and assist during surgical procedures • Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery of animals • Maintain accurate medical records for each patient • Perform dental cleanings and assist with dental procedures • Educate pet owners on proper nutrition, preventive care, and overall animal health • Handle and restrain animals during examinations and treatments • Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines and blood analyzers • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment • Assist with euthanasia procedures and provide compassionate support to grieving pet owners • Manage inventory and order supplies for the clinic • Conduct triage and provide emergency first aid to animals • Assist with inventory management • Stay current with industry developments and attend continuing education opportunities as required

Veterinary Technician Qualifications & Skills

Certification as a Veterinary Technician through a recognized accrediting body is preferred, however experience may be substituted for education. Strong understanding of veterinary terminology and procedures, proficiency in veterinary software and electronic medical records, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to handle and restrain various animal species safely, detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, ability to work well in high-pressure and emergency situations, familiarity with advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment, certification in specialized veterinary fields such as anesthesia or dentistry, ability to multitask and prioritize effectively, minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately, compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care, proficient in the use of computer software and electronic medical records systems, physical stamina and the ability to perform repetitive tasks, good problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure, commitment to maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment, willingness to continue education and training in veterinary medicine.
