Dogwood Veterinary Specialty & Emergency is expanding to the Atlanta (Dunwoody), GA area in 2026, and we are seeking an experienced Veterinary Oncology Technician to join our growing specialty team.
This is a high-acuity, non-entry-level role designed for technicians who thrive in oncology patient care, chemotherapy administration, and long-term case management. You’ll work alongside board-certified oncologists and specialty clinicians, supporting patients through diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care.

Oncology Technician Responsibilities
As a Veterinary Oncology Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting cancer patients throughout their treatment journey—from diagnosis through ongoing care.
Oncology Patient Care
- Provide compassionate, high-quality care for patients undergoing cancer treatment
Monitor patients for:
- Chemotherapy side effects
- Changes in condition or comfort level
- Support long-term management of chronic oncology cases
- Assist with patient appointments, rechecks, and treatment follow-ups
Chemotherapy Administration & Safety
- Prepare and administer chemotherapeutic agents in accordance with safety protocols
- Follow strict hazardous drug handling guidelines (OSHA/NIOSH)
- Utilize proper PPE and safety equipment
- Ensure accurate dosing, documentation, and treatment tracking
Diagnostics & Procedural Support
Assist with:
- Blood draws and lab work
- Fine needle aspirates and biopsy support
- Staging diagnostics (imaging, lab collection coordination)
- Ensure patients are properly prepared for diagnostic procedures
Client Communication & Education
Educate clients on:
- Treatment plans and expectations
- Medication administration and side effects
- At-home care and quality of life considerations
- Provide empathetic support during emotionally sensitive conversations
- Build strong relationships with clients throughout the treatment process
Critical Care Collaboration
- Partner with ER and ICU teams for continuity of care
- Recognize and respond to oncologic emergencies
- Participate in CPR/code response (RECOVER guidelines preferred)
Clinical Excellence
- Maintain accurate, detailed medical records
- Ensure compliance with chemotherapy handling and safety standards
- Maintain oncology equipment and treatment areas
- Support a clean, organized, and efficient workflow
Who We're Looking For
2+ years of experience in:
- Specialty, ER, ICU, or high-volume veterinary practice
- Strong background in:
- Patient care and clinical nursing skills
- Experience with:
- Venipuncture and lab sample handling
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, emotionally sensitive environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credentials (highly valued, not required)
Prior experience in:
- Oncology or internal medicine
- Chemotherapy administration
- Familiarity with:
- OSHA/NIOSH chemotherapy safety standards
- RECOVER CPR certification
- Strong client communication and education skills
