Sherwood South Animal Hospital & Emergency Center is hiring a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Technician to join our general practice team within a dynamic 24/7 emergency and critical care hospital. This role is ideal for technicians who enjoy variety, teamwork, and practicing quality medicine in a fast‑paced, supportive environment.
Our hospital serves dogs and cats across East & West Baton Rouge Parish, Zachary, Denham Springs, Central, and Prairieville, offering primary care, urgent care, emergency services, dentistry, boarding, and grooming—all under one roof.
What You’ll Do
As a Veterinary Technician, you’ll play a vital role in daily patient care by:
- Assisting veterinarians during exams, treatments, and procedures
- Supporting anesthesia, surgical assisting, and post‑operative care
- Preparing patients and instruments for surgery
- Monitoring anesthetic patients and observing changes in condition
- Collecting laboratory samples and performing in‑house diagnostics
- Operating digital radiography and other diagnostic equipment
- Administering medications and prescribed treatments
- Recording accurate patient histories and medical records
- Assisting with patient admissions and discharges
- Using safe restraint techniques and following hospital protocols
- Maintaining clean, organized, and sterile exam, treatment, and lab areas
- Collaborating with doctors, technicians, and support staff
- Supporting and mentoring fellow team members as needed
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Skills
- Experience working as a veterinary technician in a clinical setting with direct patient care
- CVT / LVT / RVT credentials encouraged, but not required
- Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical assisting
- Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
- Team‑oriented, professional, and compassionate demeanor
