Deliver Critical Emergency Care When Patients Need It Most

 

Sherwood South Animal Hospital & Emergency Center is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our overnight ER team. This role is ideal for technicians who thrive in fast‑paced emergency environments, enjoy hands‑on critical care, and want to be part of a strong, supportive overnight crew.

 

Our hospital provides 24/7 emergency and critical care alongside primary care, urgent care, dentistry, boarding, and grooming—serving pets throughout East & West Baton Rouge Parish, Zachary, Denham Springs, Central, and Prairieville.

 

What You’ll Do

As an Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician, you’ll support high‑acuity cases by:

  • Assisting veterinarians during emergency exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Providing advanced nursing care and emergency first aid to injured or critical patients
  • Supporting anesthesia, surgical assisting, and post‑operative monitoring
  • Preparing patients and instruments for emergency procedures
  • Monitoring patients under anesthesia and observing changes in condition
  • Collecting laboratory samples and performing in‑house diagnostics
  • Operating digital radiography and advanced diagnostic equipment
  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Accurately recording patient histories and medical records
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and sterile exam, treatment, and lab areas
  • Using safe restraint techniques and following hospital protocols
  • Supporting smooth patient flow and collaborating closely with the overnight medical team
  • Mentoring and supporting fellow team members as needed

 

What We’re Looking For

Required Experience & Skills

  • Experience working as an Emergency Veterinary Technician
  • Comfort in fast‑paced, high‑acuity environments
  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical assisting
  • Strong attention to detail and clinical observation skills
  • Excellent problem‑solving and teamwork abilities

 

Credentials

  • CVT / LVT / RVT (active and current) encouraged to apply
