Description Veterinary Assistant - Neurology Full-time San Antonio, TX Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists TPHS is looking for a Neurology Veterinary Assistant to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You

Work as part of a cohesive team performing patient imaging, assisting with unique neurologic examinations and tests, including on-site CT & MRI, and assisting with anesthesia and neurosurgery. There is a large client communication component to this position.

Role Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

  • Assist veterinary technician or neurologist with conducting examinations and obtaining complete histories
  • Reviewing care plans and records
  • Completing laboratory tests and studies and diagnostic imaging
  • Assisting veterinary technicians with patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications or drugs

Ability to demonstrate proficiency and follow correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiography positioning.

Ability to handle high caseloads and stressful situations in a professional manner.

Excellent understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with veterinary pharmacology.

Highly motivated, enthusiastic, self-starter with a professional attitude and detail-oriented.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Assisting in Small animal surgery & recovery.

Assisting with setting up for MRI and CT procedures.

Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.

Follow OSHA guidelines concerning safety and handling of hazardous materials.

Requirements

2-3 years of experience in a fast-paced veterinary hospital or clinic, neurology, or specialty preferred.

Must have anesthesia experience.

Certified veterinary assistant CVA certification preferred or willingness to obtain CVA certification within six months of employment.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, clinicians, staff, and pet owners.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must be available for on call shifts at least one weekend per month and holidays as required.
