As a Part-Time Veterinary Technician Instructor, you will implement the program curriculum to educate and inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals. You will also serve as the "Attending Veterinarian" for the campus, providing high-level medical decisions for patients and ensuring the highest standards of care in a learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Medical Oversight

  • Attending Veterinarian: Act as the "Attending Veterinarian" for the program and actively participate in all IACUC meetings.

  • Patient Care: Examine patients for medical necessities, review diagnostic testing, and communicate abnormalities to partner rescues.

  • Medical Authority: Provide all final medical decisions for patients and perform necessary medical procedures within the program.

  • Compliance & DEA: Maintain the campus DEA license and controlled substance logs, strictly monitoring supply levels and expiration dates.

  • Regulatory Standards: Ensure all medical records are complete and in full compliance with AVMA and USDA standards.

Instructional Excellence

  • Classroom & Lab: Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, practical demonstrations, and daily lesson plans.

  • Competency Tracking: Monitor hands-on lab competencies and confirm student skill levels on certification checklists.

  • Student Success: Maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes and implement retention plans to support struggling students.

  • Administration: Maintain accurate student grades and prepare final evaluations at the end of each course sequence.

  • A Master of the Clinic: You can confidently demonstrate and teach the use of standard veterinary equipment, including anesthesia machines, patient monitors, and surgical tools.

  • A Strong Communicator: You possess the verbal and written skills necessary to lead a classroom and coordinate effectively with campus staff.

  • Physically Capable: You are able to safely demonstrate the lifting and restraint techniques required of professional veterinary nurses.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an AVMA-accredited institution with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.

  • Licensure: Must hold an active, unrestricted license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Texas (or be eligible to obtain one prior to start).

  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a DVM in a clinic, hospital, or shelter environment.

Pima Medical Institute started changing lives in 1972 when Richard Luebke Sr. and his wife, JoAnn, brought to life their dream of providing quality medical career education. They opened the first campus in Tucson, Arizona, preparing students to become nursing assistants. Eventually Richard Luebke Jr. and Mark Luebke took the helm, introducing more programs and opening additional campus locations to meet the country’s growing demand for quality healthcare professionals.

In 2015, Fred Freedman became Pima Medical’s President and Chief Executive Officer after serving the college as Chief Operating Officer. He has been with Pima Medical since June of 2000.
