Job Summary

Perform specialized duties for the Veterans Resource Center by providing information on specific programs and services offered to veterans who want to pursue an education and for the Districts Military Affiliated students. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.

Essential Functions

Ensure the Veterans Resource Center is open and operational throughout each semester, ensuring high-quality customer service. Provide training and work direction to College Part-Time Staff and Veterans Affairs (VA) students workers, including arranging the approval of timesheets and assisting with their inquiries.

Provide clerical services such as answering telephone, taking messages, routing calls, and responding to students questions, fax and e-mail information as required. Process various student information, including status changes, electronic certifications, and degree changes. Receive and prepare correspondence and certification paperwork and coordinate documentation with other campus departments. Develop and maintain a filing system.

Research, retrieve, and compile data to produce detailed reports. Provide enrollment counts and monthly status reports. Exchange information with internal and external departments and agencies to explain policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing department functions and ensure that VA rules and regulations are followed.

Participate in all divisional and departmental responsibility areas, such as proposing program projects and exhibiting leadership in their implementation. Participate in committees and work with faculty to accomplish the goals of the department, discipline, and the College.

Serve as a liaison between faculty, departments, and local agencies to provide information on military affiliated programs and veteran benefits. Assess student needs and provide appropriate information on specific programs.

Assist in implementing the Military Affiliated Student Orientation.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. Associates Degree and three (3) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.

  1. Knowledge of VA regulations, rules, and policies regarding educational benefits eligibility and certification process.

  2. Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies governing student admissions and financial aid.

  3. Effective communication skills (both oral and written).

  4. Ability to interpret, explain, and implement VA, state, federal financial aid regulations, policies, procedures, and practices.

  5. Knowledge of VA educational benefits eligibility, financial aid available services, and associated processes and requirements.

  6. Ability to evaluate alternatives and reach sound decisions within areas of assigned responsibility.

  7. Ability to understand and be sensible to the various academic needs.

  8. Excellent customer service.

  9. Experience generating reports.

  10. Proficient computer skills, including internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colorvision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
