As a Vet Technician, you will provide essential clinical support for rodent health care. Your responsibilities will include performing sick checks, anesthesia, analgesia, euthanasia, and surgery. You will coordinate and assist with the transfer of rodents within and between facilities, conduct health surveillance sampling, and perform Post Approval Monitoring of housing and procedure rooms. Additionally, you will support the training program for animal husbandry staff and research staff utilizing animals, pursue continuing education in lab animal medicine, and prepare and present at Veterinary Services seminars.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical support for rodent health care including sick checks, anesthesia, analgesia, euthanasia, and surgery.
• Coordinate and assist with the transfer of rodents within and between facilities.
• Perform health surveillance sampling.
• Conduct Post Approval Monitoring of housing and procedure rooms.
• Assist with the training program for animal husbandry and research staff.
• Pursue continuing education in lab animal medicine and managerial/leadership courses.
• Prepare and present at one monthly Veterinary Services seminar per year.

Essential Skills

• Experience in animal research and veterinary practices.
• Proficiency in blood draw and handling of rodents, especially mice.
• Associate"s or Bachelor"s degree in a science-related field.
• Previous clinical or research experience with animals, particularly in health checks, euthanasia, and surgery.
• Experience with anesthesia, analgesia, and phlebotomy in rodents.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate"s Degree in a relevant field with at least 6 months - 2 years of relevant technical experience with mice and rats in a laboratory setting.
• Knowledge of applicable regulations regarding animal care and use in a research environment.
• Strong collaborative skills and willingness to train and advise less experienced research staff.
• Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring work is typically accurate and complete without needing review.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of a team of 15 vet techs. You will spend 50% of your day in the Laboratory/Vivarium performing sick checks, health monitoring, and Post Approval Monitoring (PAM). The remaining 50% of your day will be spent at your desk completing paperwork and corresponding with researchers via email. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with shifts from 8am to 4:30pm or 9am to 5:30pm.

This is a Permanent position based out of Tarrytown, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
