About the role
This is a field-forward, hands-on mechanic role. You will be deployed to job sites and roadsides, not just the shop, diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment and fleet vehicles in real-world conditions. If you are the kind of tech who thrives working outdoors, adapts fast, and can troubleshoot under pressure, this role was built for you.
Under general supervision of the Branch Manager, you will maintain and repair gasoline and diesel-powered light and heavy-duty vehicles, construction machinery, and trailers in the garage and out in the field.
What you'll do
Perform major and minor repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, and differentials
Diagnose and repair electrical, fuel, ignition, cooling, and emission control systems on class 8 trucks, service vehicles, and construction equipment
Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, hydrostatic, and electro-hydraulic systems including disassembly of pumps and motors
Respond to and complete roadside or jobsite repairs as needed, in all weather and terrain conditions
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety compliance repairs
Maintain and install electrical components: lights, warning systems, starting and charging systems
Manage parts inventory and complete time, materials, and repair records
Provide technical guidance to Level I mechanics, customers, and field service reps
Requirements
Journey-level mechanical experience with diesel and gas engines
Proven electrical and hydraulic diagnostic skills
Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
Ability to work independently with good judgment
Physical requirements
Lift and carry up to 90 lbs regularly; up to 150 lbs occasionally
Push up to 250 lbs; stand, walk, climb, stoop, and crawl as needed
Fine motor skills for precision repairs
Work extended periods outdoors in all weather
Working conditions - what to expect in the field
All weather - rain, heat, cold
Roadside and jobsite deployments
Noise, fumes, oils and solvents
Slippery, uneven, and moving surfaces
Must pass a drug test and have a clean driving record.
