Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
5+ years relevant experience (design, manufacturing, tooling, cost engineering, purchasing, or deep commodity/process expertise)
Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and assembly flow in high-volume environments (automotive preferred)
Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and BOMs; comfortable working with physical samples
Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; strong written/verbal communication
Interior-related experience preferred in one or more areas: soft trim, carpet/NVH insulation, headliner/trim, seating (foaming/sewing/trim/assembly/injection molding), sunvisors/grab handles, floor console/door trim
Comfortable learning standardized cost models, formulas, and costing tools
Build component and tooling cost estimates from BOMs, drawings/specs, and part samples
Develop early-phase estimates and detailed should-cost calculations using manufacturing process logic
Support Design-to-Cost and value optimization/benchmarking activities
Partner with Purchasing on supplier negotiations by reviewing cost breakdowns and performing gap analysis (piece price, ED&D, tooling)
Collaborate cross-functionally with global Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, and Suppliers
Provide cost comparisons and structured recommendations for cost reduction opportunities
Manage a high volume of parts with varying complexity while meeting deadlines
