This role focuses on transforming design vision into coordinated construction documents and digital models that support commercial projects from concept through completion. As a VDC Designer / BIM Specialist, you develop, manage, and coordinate 3D models and visualizations that enhance preconstruction, design coordination, and field execution. You serve as a critical link between design intent and construction reality by producing accurate 3D models, 2D drawings, and renderings that improve project planning, communication, and overall efficiency in commercial construction.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D models for commercial construction projects using Revit software.
  • Generate accurate 2D drawings and construction plans, including permit set plans and related 3D model outputs.
  • Coordinate drawings across multiple trades, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), structural, and civil disciplines, to identify and prevent conflicts.
  • Review and interpret architectural blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications to ensure design accuracy and constructability.
  • Verify that all drawings and models comply with local building codes, zoning regulations, and ADA requirements.
  • Maintain organized drawing files, models, and documentation within company systems and digital platforms.
  • Support business development, project managers, superintendents, and trade partners by providing digital models and visualizations that aid in preconstruction planning and field execution.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings as needed to support design and construction alignment.
  • Contribute to the quality, efficiency, and accountability of commercial construction projects by ensuring the accuracy and consistency of all digital deliverables.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support project and team needs.

Essential Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, including the ability to create, manage, and update 3D models for commercial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements, including ADA considerations.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all drawings and models.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with project managers, superintendents, trade partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify and resolve design coordination issues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with a commercial general contractor is preferred.
  • Experience with Revit MEP and familiarity with MEP coordination is a plus.
  • Experience with BIM workflows and processes is beneficial.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for design and drafting tasks is an advantage.
  • Background or interest in architecture and construction design is desirable.

Work Environment

This is an in-person role within a commercial construction environment where you collaborate closely with project teams, superintendents, and trade partners. You work primarily with digital tools such as Revit, Revit MEP, BIM platforms, and AutoCAD to develop and coordinate models and drawings.
