Summary

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts VCUarts Department of Craft and Material Studies is establishing a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions. The Department of Craft and Material Studies will consult the adjunct applicant pool and contact qualified applicants whose credentials match our specific teaching needs on an as-needed basis. This pool will be assessed as adjunct opportunities arise. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an awareness of the diverse field knowledge of media specialization, particularly in technical proficiency knowledge of or experience in implementing a variety of teaching strategies and the ability to teach effectively at the college level.

Typical Duties

Possible adjunct opportunities could include teaching one or more courses in any of the areas of study offered within Craft and Material Studies. A link to course descriptions from VCUs Undergraduate Bulletin can be found at https://bulletin.vcu.edu/az/courses.

Adjunct faculty are expected to be enthusiastic ambassadors for the Department of Craft and Material Studies and have a desire to work with a student population from all backgrounds and experiences in a collaborative and learning-centered community of other adjunct instructors, students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in the area of teaching specialization is highly desirable. Active exhibition record and previous teaching experience at the college level is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in Masters in Fine Arts is preferred or training and professional experience that equates to a terminal degree.
  • Appropriate teaching experience and/or strong oral presentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
