Responsible for completing standard non-invasive vascular exams to include knowledge of appropriate indications for specific vascular exams, knowledge of different diagnostic problems in each case, and of normal peripheral vascular anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of basic ultrasound principles pertaining to vascular studies. To recognize and distinguish an adequate from an inadequate vascular exam.

Job Description
Performs inpatient and outpatient adult echo and vascular studies as required, including transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and contrast echocardiography, carotid duplex studies, upper and lower extremity arterial testing, upper and lower extremity venous studies, and some abdominal vascular studies.
Minimum Training and Education
High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited formal program in echo and vascular ultrasound, and/or on-the-job training in echo and vascular ultrasound. Additional relevant courses and/or degrees preferred. 1 year of experience scanning echo and vascular preferred.
Position Responsibilities
Performs echo and vascular studies as required, including transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms, contrast echocardiography, carotid duplex studies, upper and lower extremity arterial testing, upper and lower extremity venous studies, and some abdominal vascular studies. Maintains an excellent understanding of normal and abnormal cardiovascular anatomy as well as pathology. Diligently prepares appropriate reports for echo and vascular studies. Learns the department and hospital routines in the various hospitals served. Assists with quality assurance on an ongoing basis. Maintains rapport with physicians and other hospital staff. Participates in on-call weekend and holiday schedules. Ensures that appropriate care is delivered to patients in accordance with medical orders and is documented in clinical records. Participates in student education programs.
Required Licensure Certifications Registrations
Credentialed by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RCDS) Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) CCI Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) Registered Vascular Specialist (RVSC) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Minimum Training and Education
Graduation from an accredited Vascular Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or Ultrasonography program is preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered. Vascular Sonographers must have a minimum of two years of Vascular specific scanning experience and approval by the Supervisor to be considered for the Vascular Sonographer II position. Current staff must have all Consistent or Mentor ratings on the most recent annual evaluation and no written reprimands within a calendar year at the time of consideration for a Vascular Sonographer II position. Incoming Vascular Sonographers must have a minimum of two years of Vascular specific scanning experience and acceptable references from prior Supervisors/Managers to be hired into a Vascular Sonographer II position. Active membership in a related professional organization such as SDMS or SVU is required.
Required Licensure Certifications Registrations
Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Vascular Technologist (ARDMS RVT) or by Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI RVS) is required prior to being hired. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification is required.
