Varsity Boys Basketball Coach

Job Goal

To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline, sportsmanship, dedication to hard work, personal accountability, and the development of strong leadership qualities.

Qualifications

• Sport specific participation
• Coaching experience preferred
• CAP Level 1 completion preferred

Critical Skills

• Previous and extensive Basketball coaching experience.
• Work well with athletes and high school aged students.
• Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner.
• Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice.
• Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner.
• Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others.
• Ability to travel as needed.

Performance Responsibilities

• Responsible for varsity team and entire boys' basketball program grades 7-12.
• Enforce all rules of the Michigan High School Athletic Association and School.
• Communicate in an appropriate and timely manner to students, parents, athletic director, media, and coaches.
• Maintain an accurate squad roster at all times.
• Verify that no athlete is issued equipment or allowed to practice until he/she has completed a physical exam/participation agreement form.
• Supervise practice sessions and maintain security of the locker room.
• Serve as an advisor to the students on his/her team.
• Report injuries of participants to proper school officials.
• Follow injury policy as explained in Coach's handbook.
• Support and facilitate established decisions and policy decisions of a general nature that are in keeping with the established policies and procedures of the school.
• Follow school guidelines as detailed in athletic and coach's handbook.
• Organize a system for uniform and equipment checkout and ensure that all students are accountable at the conclusion of each season.
• Support the total athletic program of the Lawrence Public School system.
• Attend all coaches' meetings.
• Assist with scouting of teams when necessary.
