Job Summary:
Variform hand builds shapes and sizes of special parts for various uses, by applying rubber and sheet stock to metal or plaster type mold.
Cuffer builds special shapes and configurations.
Essential Functions:
Variform:
Works from prints and material specifications to make routing set-ups and die changes. Selects materials for proper application. Applies rubber, fabric, cement or wire to shaped molds. Shapes, molds and smoothes by hand or with small hand tools to achieve required configuration. Pressure wraps parts using non-stick wrap to hold shape and compactness. Removes finished parts for curing in heat processes or other processing. Makes and welds rings for couplings. Insulates hoses with fiberglass. Operator maintains quality control of parts and assures good workmanship.
Cuffer:
Performs repetitive duties to cut, trim, cuff, apply special tapers, sleeves or special shapes and fittings to prepare finished ducts for shipments. Cuts, cements, and applies fabric to abraided end to form cuffs. Performs assembly operations to ducts. Trims cuffs of finished flexflyte ducts to close tolerances using powered trimming machine.
Performs simple set-ups to trimming machine assuring proper diameter and cuff length. Adjusts machine as necessary by checking prints or specs. Checks quality and routes finished parts for packing. Builds special shapes, tapers or unusual configurations.
Secondary Duties:
Checks for tool wear and reports defects.
Performs occasional special packaging and assembly.

Qualifications:
Education: Prefer high school diploma or GED
Ability to understand prints and material specifications
Experience: 1 2 years to see all different parts to achieve proficiency
Skills: Manual dexterity is a critical skill
Close visual attention required to maintain parts consistency and quality requires visual acuity
Special Requirements:
Primarily a hand produced product with some tools and equipment used.
Exposure to some chemicals and uncured rubber.
Stands for sustained periods while cuffing.
