A day in the life
You are the catalyst who embeds Lean thinking into everyday work. From the first Gemba walk to the last action-item follow up, you ensure strategies become habits and principles become standard practice across the value stream.
Partner with Operational Excellence
Work hand-in-hand with the Operational Excellence Manager and value stream leaders to activate Lean transformation and daily management. You translate strategy into motion and coach teams to sustain progress.
Make the data talk
- Collect and analyze key performance indicators for the areas under review.
- Assess the current state and define future-state goals and objectives.
- Execute both short- and long-range objectives that advance the value stream’s goals.
Design the flow
- Use value stream mapping to shape optimal information, material, and production flows.
- Identify, address, and remove process obstacles by collaborating with site personnel.
- Support changes to systems and processes required for Lean initiatives.
Be the change agent
- Own pre- and post-event standard work to ensure improvements stick.
- Lead or facilitate continuous improvement projects and rapid improvement events.
- Join regular Gemba walks; coach on continuous improvement, standard work creation/modification/adherence, flow, takt time achievement, and resolving abnormalities.
- Deliver training on Lean Transformation tools and methods.
- Maintain and enhance visual performance systems, including mission control and MDI boards.
- Drive follow-up on action plans and support teams to sustain gains.
Execute the mechanics
- Support value stream analysis events.
- Run cycle time analyses, time studies, line balancing improvements, and workplace analysis improvements.
- Create and implement standard work; teach and coach line leaders to do the same.
- Implement and coach the use of cell control boards and other visual management tools.
- Lead, coach, and assist teams in structured problem solving.
- Resolve post-event issues to reach the desired future state.
Embed Lean in the culture
- Help identify ongoing training needs across the value stream.
- Support clear communication of Lean transformation and daily management direction to all employees.
- Apply a change management model to guide adoption.
- Ensure strong engagement from participants in continuous improvement events.
- Coach employees and leaders to adopt Lean behaviors, principles, and practices.
