Examples of Duties

Tigard takes great pride in its parks and trail systems. The Parks Division plays an integral role in maintaining, repairing, and developing neighborhood parks, community parks, natural areas and trail systems.

  • Planting trees, pruning trees, removing hazardous trees.
  • Irrigating, mowing, fertilizing, and renovating turfgrass; planting, fertilizing and pruning shrubs.
  • Operating specialized vehicles and heavy equipment (such as aerial lift trucks, production mowers) related to the maintenance and repair of City parks.
  • Installing, inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining park equipment, playgrounds, restroom facilities, and grounds to ensure safe user experiences.
  • Maintaining park appearance - graffiti and trash removal and vandalism repair.
  • Participates in programming, installing, troubleshooting and repairing irrigation systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and two (2) years of related experience, such as construction, repair, operation AND maintenance of streets, underground utilities, or parks and landscape.
  • Utility Worker I:
  • One (1) year of related experience, such as construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of streets, underground utilities, or parks and landscape.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Utility Worker I: Oregon Driver license with the appropriate endorsements and satisfactory driving history.
  • Utility Worker II: Possession of a valid Class A (CDL) Commercial Oregon driver license with the appropriate endorsements and satisfactory driving history
  • Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain: Standard First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross and a valid CPR Certification

Supplemental Information

Union Representation: SEIU

Schedule: Generally, working days are Monday-Friday 8 hour days, occasionally weekends with advanced notice.

Additional Information:

The successful candidate will pass a physical capacities test designed to evaluate ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job.
