The Department of Sustainability Initiatives at Georgia State University is seeking to hire a Utility Worker I.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

This position is responsible for promoting sustainability at Georgia State University. This position assists in special projects, such as setting up and moving furniture for special on campus and off campus events, such as commencements, concerts, convocations, and areas, such as plazas and parks. This position will also drive work vehicles safely on and off campus; operate a forklift; specialize in recycling knowledge and processes, and maintain a safe, functional and operational Recycling Center

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assists in set up and participates in campus sustainability events such as Earth Week, Recyclemania, Move-in, and Move-Out
  • Drives university vehicles and walks buildings to collect recycling from assigned loading docks and buildings; including operating compactor truck and collecting cardboard.
  • Operates vertical baler and forklift to bale and store paper and plastic fil; operates paper shredder to shred confidential documents.
  • Removes recyclables from truck and sorts them at Recycling Center into correct location; plays a key role in keeping this area clean, safe, and functional.
  • Drives university vehicle to haul materials to designated off-campus locations.
  • Completes work orders in a timely fashion; provides excellent customer service and maintains collaborative and positive working relationship.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work in all temperature conditions.
  • Flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
  • Extended standing, walking, ability to bend, stoop, reach and climb ladders.

Qualifications

:

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED. A valid Georgia driver''s license is required.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • CDL license or driving experience preferred
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • Experience with recycling, building services, janitorial, trash collection, grounds experience preferred

Salary offers will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications in relation to the Minimum Hiring Standards. Candidates earlier in their careers are typically offered salaries closer to the minimum of the hiring range, while those with more advanced or relevant experience may be considered for compensation at or above the hiring range.
