UTILITY CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE-METER & CLOSINGS CLERK

WATER & SEWER DEPARTMENT

Summary: Provides a variety of technical and administrative support. Researches and verifies information using City land records software, including transfers of ownership which have not gone through the internal closing procedures. Determines and provides all information as required for attorneys for property sales closing, title searches, foreclosures and remortgaging. Primary contact to schedule customer appointments. Prepares service and work orders. Maintain and organize the mailing of meter change communication utilizing scheduling and utility billing software. Researches water main assessments to assist customers. Answers telephone calls. Processes customer payments, and performs cashiering. Processes customer data changes. Compares and updates customer accounts from the online payment portal, scheduling software or other means. Requires the ability to multitask with a high focus in organization; and the ability to learn and retain technical knowledge regarding the water and sewer industry and communicate it with customers. Primary back up for the Billing Clerk, complete knowledge of procedures for the timely preparation and completion of billing program required. Additional duties include but not limited to: Performs other related duties and assist in the office as it becomes necessary, including communications to field staff.

Qualifications: Requires High school diploma (or GED), minimum of 3 years of relevant general office, billing or high-volume customer services experience, including high quality communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Requires intermediate software knowledge of Database, Internet (bill payment); Financial Management (utility billing, Tyler/MUNIS, or equivalent), Spreadsheet & Word Processing (Microsoft Office).

Physical Demands & Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Regularly works in indoor or office environment.

Classification, Schedule & Information: Full time position, 37½ hours per week. Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (½ hour unpaid lunch daily), Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (½ hour unpaid lunch daily). and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (no lunch period). Position tested (computerized testing based on related job functions, and Excel test).

Benefits include Defined Benefit Pension Plan, generous time off (personal days, perfect attendance days, vacation, accrued sick leave, including 13 full day & 2 half day holidays) & insurance package (medical, dental, vision care, prescriptions, life, and short-term disability).

Salary: $26.16/hour. (Increases to $28.61 @6 months, and $29.05 @1 year.)
