Utility Coordinator / Construction Superintendent

Are you an experienced construction professional with experience coordinating infrastructure projects and leading field operations? The City of Johns Creek is seeking a Utility Coordinator/Construction Superintendent to oversee utilities and manage construction activities for capital improvement projects. In this role, you will collaborate with the City's construction management team, contractors, utility providers, engineering consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate utilities during engineering and construction phases, facilitate communication and resolve conflicts among utility providers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Manage daily field operations to ensure construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with OSHA, GDOT, MUTCD, City standards, and project specifications.
  • Conduct field inspections, monitor quality, maintain accurate project documentation, and identify practical solutions to field issues that support project schedules and budgets.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Manager to support project scheduling, cost tracking, procurement, risk mitigation, and overall project delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with contractors, CEI inspectors, engineering consultants, utility companies, City staff, and the public while providing on-call support on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience supervising heavy civil or roadway construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of GDOT roadway standards, specifications, and inspection processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans, traffic control layouts, and utility drawings.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Licensed to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Proficiency with tablets, reporting software, and digital documentation tools.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with municipal roadway projects in Georgia.
  • Certifications (GSWCC Erosion Control Level 1A/1B, Traffic Control Supervisor).
  • Experience coordinating utility relocations.
  • Able to obtain LAP, ROW and PDP certifications through GDOT.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and practices for utilities, roadways, bridges, drainage, paving, and vegetation management.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, surveys, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to prepare clear reports and build effective working relationships.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills to resolve field issues and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to stand and walk on construction sites for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
