Description

Under immediate supervision, performs routine technical and responsible skilled work in the operation and maintenance of heat drying equipment; other work as required.

Examples of Duties

Makes regular tours of facilities and checks furnace, drum dryer, mixer, pumps, separator, fans, tanks, conveyors, compressors, heat recover systems, centrifuge equipment, chemical feed systems, truck loading systems and other equipment for proper functioning; records readings from meters and instruments; changes charts, regulates and adjusts furnace, motors, pumps, mixer, valves, and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions; collects samples of digested solids and dried solids for laboratory analysis; performs specific laboratory tests; cleans, services and maintains furnace, drum dryer, mixer, pumps, separator, fans, tanks, conveyors, compressors, heat recover systems centrifuge equipment, chemical feed systems, truck loading systems and other equipment; reports defects to senior dryer technician; substitutes for senior dryer technician in his/her absence. Shift work and on-call is required.

Typical Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and extensive mechanical maintenance experience including a considerable amount in the repair and maintenance of heat drying, conveying and pumping equipment.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting and speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (nonweather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
