Job Title: Project Instrumentation Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Instrumentation Engineer to join our team. This role involves providing instrumentation expertise for various projects, focusing on instrumentation specification and design, Safety Instrumented System (SIS) design, and system troubleshooting. The position offers the opportunity for extension beyond the initial six-month period.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple tasks to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget, ensuring high client satisfaction.
  • Communicate project/task status and issues with project manager and management.
  • Solve project issues during installation using engineering discipline and experience.
  • Locate project drawings and provide initial markups for drafting.
  • Oversee and prepare designs and work plans from conceptual design through detailed design packages.
  • Select instruments, specify valves, and determine cable sizing.
  • Prepare tray routing and wire routes as needed.
  • Work with Functional Safety Project Manager to prioritize and implement projects.
  • Develop and update instrument spec sheets, loop sheets, connection diagrams, electrical schematics, EFDs, and PIDs.
  • Prepare requests for bids for subcontractors and material vendors.
  • Compare bids and recommend subcontractor and vendor selections.
  • Perform field walks to assess DCS connections, existing instruments, and utility constraints.
  • Coordinate with the site DCS team to implement project changes.
  • Understand and work with various voltage levels and instrumentation systems.
  • Perform field engineering, supervise subcontractors, and ensure QA/QC in the field.
  • Communicate work quality or safety concerns to relevant personnel.
  • Assist with equipment commissioning, startup, and operational troubleshooting.

Essential Skills

  • At least 8 years of instrumentation engineering experience.
  • Preferably 5 years of experience in chemical production or refinery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Integrity Level (SIL), and Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).
  • Experience with International Electrotechnical Commission Standard IEC.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to take direction and act independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders unassisted.

Work Environment

The position involves working at project construction sites, where the use of personal protective equipment such as steel toes, hard hats, gloves, goggles, and safety glasses is required. Work may involve climbing up to 4 feet without fall protection and lifting up to 50 lbs. A company-provided vehicle is available for site use only. Safety Data Sheets are available for all chemicals onsite.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $65.00/hr.
