 Principal Mechanical Design Engineer | Phoenix, AZ

Our client, a leading aerospace and defense technology organization, is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. You will be part of the Legacy Engines & APU Structures Group within the Component Design & Analysis (CDA) Directorate, supporting engine design, analysis, and cross-functional engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, leadership and mentoring experience, and excellent communication and collaboration abilities, which will align successfully within the organization.

 

Job Title: Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Pay Range: $76–79/hour

What’s the Job?

  • Design, develop, and analyze static gas turbine engine components, including performing stress, vibration, and heat transfer analyses.
  • Provide technical expertise across engine and power systems programs while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and customer requirements.
  • Lead engineering activities such as design reviews, project planning, resource coordination, and technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the disposition of discrepant hardware and provide engineering solutions for mechanical design challenges.
  • Mentor junior engineers, drive continuous process improvements, and ensure accurate documentation of engineering work.

What’s Needed?

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with 8+ years of relevant mechanical design experience.
  • Strong experience with structural mechanics of static components, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and dispositioning discrepant hardware.
  • Experience estimating engineering efforts, planning technical work, and leading engineering projects.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop less experienced engineers while working effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
