Job Title: - Calibration Engineer

Location: - Auburn Hills, MI (Onsite)

Duration: - Long Term Contract (W2)

Description:

The Torque Security Calibration Engineer is responsible for developing, testing, and validating vehicle-based calibrations that achieve world-class torque security calibrations for both spark ignited engines and electrical powertrain systems.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Plan, generate, and verify feature calibrations in hot climate, cold climate, and high altitude in accordance with powertrain system functional objectives along with generating reports to communicate the status of the program to the larger team.
  • Manipulate and utilize large and complex sets of engine mapping data to analyze and solve complex system problems as they relate to functional safety, engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, OBD, and base engine calibration development.
  • Work cross functionally with engine development, powertrain controls and vehicle teams to identify and implement calibration solutions that achieve program requirements.
  • Support functional safety validation activities by inducing sensor and system failures and verifying that vehicle systems respond appropriately and achieve safe operating conditions.
  • Perform hands-on vehicle testing using breakout harnesses and other diagnostic equipment to support calibration validation and development activities.
  • Execute vehicle reaction testing and validation test plans to ensure systems meet functional safety requirements prior to production release.
  • Support vehicle troubleshooting, issue resolution, software validation activities, and launch readiness efforts.
  • Coordinate with unionized shop personnel regarding vehicle updates, repairs, instrumentation, and testing activities.
  • Participate in technical reviews, calibration discussions, issue resolution meetings, and cross-functional team activities.
  • Operate and evaluate development vehicles at proving grounds and other test locations while documenting results and communicating findings to engineering teams.
  • The candidate should expect to travel 4-6 weeks throughout the year for system validation/verification.
  • Additional travel may include testing and calibration activities in locations such as Colorado, Arizona, and Houghton, Michigan.
  • Primary work location is Chelsea Proving Grounds, with occasional support required at CTC and other engineering facilities as needed. Approximately 80-90% of the role will be based in Chelsea.

Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related STEM field (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar).
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience; strong recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Strong hands-on automotive experience demonstrated through:

  • Personal vehicle projects or automotive hobbies.
  • SAE/FSAE programs or competitions.
  • Automotive clubs or vehicle-focused extracurricular activities.
  • Automotive internships, co-ops, or similar hands-on experience.
  • Strong interest in automotive systems, vehicle controls, and vehicle testing.
  • Ability and willingness to perform hands-on vehicle work, including testing, troubleshooting, and failure mode validation activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and collaborate across multiple engineering groups and with unionized shop personnel.
  • Willingness to travel as required for validation and verification activities.
  • Flexibility to support occasional extended hours and weekend work during critical testing events, launch activities, software issues, or field concerns.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Experience with MATLAB and/or Simulink.
  • Prior calibration, controls, or powertrain experience.
  • Exposure to functional safety concepts and validation testing.
  • Knowledge of vehicle sensors, engine controls, powertrain systems, or electric propulsion systems.
  • Previous automotive internship or co-op experience.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting vehicle or engine test data.
  • Familiarity with OBD systems, diagnostics, or validation testing processes.
  • Engineer that likes to work and vehicles.
