Summary:

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Alabama A&M University is seeking an Urban Regional Extension Agent (UREA) in Morgan County. The successful candidate will provide educational programs in Morgan and Lawrence Counties. This position will identify, assess, and prioritize community needs and deliver educational opportunities focused on Human Health and Nutrition. The UREA will work as part of a support team under the direction of the Extension Assistant Director of Health and Human Nutrition, who provides leadership and develops nutrition program content. This position is 100% in the Human Health and Nutrition program area. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and revise high-quality, innovative programs using various educational materials and teaching methods.
  • Market educational programs and activities through public service announcements, social media, news articles, fact sheets, brochures, flyers, and other marketing tools.
  • Recruit county volunteers, program partners, and collaborators to support outreach efforts.
  • Expand program reach and impact by engaging audiences through outreach efforts.
  • Develop and manage a program advisory committee to gather input and provide guidance for program direction.
  • Facilitate county program leadership and conduct needs assessments to inform county program directions.
  • Seek funding through grants, contracts, and program agreements with relevant agencies and organizations.
  • Design and distribute surveys to collect impact data, measure effectiveness, and report accomplishments.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and interpret program data to complete required reports and demonstrate program impact.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and participate in required certification programs to enhance knowledge and expertise.

Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

  • A bachelor's degree in nutrition/dietetics, hospitality, food science, food safety, or related field (Master's Degree preferred).
  • Graduate-level coursework and specialized certifications in related fields are preferred.
  • Selected candidate must obtain a master's degree within five years of successfully completing the probationary period.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of current research, trends and issues in health and nutrition.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, engage with both small and large groups, and manage time and resources independently.
  • Proficient in computer operations, software applications, data management, and adapting to new technologies (e.g., MS Office, Banner, Concur, etc.).
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and report impact data to stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision while implementing and evaluating result-driven programs.
  • Ability to travel using personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided) and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
