Position DescriptionIn this position, the highly organized professional should bring energy and skills in working effectively with students with learning differences. The primary responsibility of this position is to support individual students so they can do their best academically, to support teachers in their work with a range of students in the 21st century classroom and to serve as a resource to families, advisors and other student-focused offices on campus about new approaches and trends in learning and learning theory. This Learning Specialist is a member of the Upper School Learning Services team and is a resource, as needed, to other community members, such as Admissions, College Counseling and Counseling. This is a 10-month position. Job ResponsibilitiesIn conjunction with the other members of the learning services department:· Works closely with students, families, and teachers on grade level specific concerns· Works one-on-one and in small groups with students on executive function skills, study skills, work habits, etc.· Shares resource-based strategies for student support· Helps write Student Support Plans (SSPs) for students who have been tested by psychologists. Helps teachers understand how to implement the actions outlined in the SSP and to find the best ways to implement the overall plan for a student. · Connects with students, challenges them, and gives them confidence to succeed· Documents student meetings and communicates concerns through appropriate channels· Communicates effectively and in a timely manner· Meets with families about student progress, challenges, and areas of growth· Organizes, coordinates, and administers on-campus exams for students with accommodations· Demonstrates flexibility, resilience, and accountability· Helps develop and design professional development opportunities for faculty (which includes informal and ongoing daily training) on such topics as teaching to a range of students, assessment development, making use of evaluation information, and providing classroom intervention at the instructional level for struggling students· Serves as an advisor and performs all duties required by school advising system.· May be required to teach one course, as determined by Upper School Head and Director of Curriculum and Instruction· Proctors one or more sections of 9th grade learning services study hall· Collaborates with advisors on progress monitoring and return-to-learn protocol following concussions or medical absences.· Collaborates with middle school and campus-wide learning services teams· Completes all other duties, as assigned.This candidate will have a bachelors degree in a related field with a masters preferred and five or more years' experience as teacher, tutor, or learning specialist. Strong interpersonal, communication, writing and organizational skills, in addition to a professional and courteous attitude when working with faculty, parents, and students is required. This position will also require excellent computer skills, including understanding of best practices for teaching girls with accommodations, familiarity with Microsoft Office and demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and be proactive. In addition to teaching, full-time faculty members serve as student advisors and contribute in other significant ways to the work of the community. We are especially interested in candidates with coaching experience and/or those who can demonstrate initiative and serve as coaches in a variety of significant ways outside of the classroom. Other supervisory responsibilities and duties are shared among faculty members. The St. Paul's Schools has a compensation scale based on direct years of experience and degree held. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's years of experience, education and skills. For this opportunity, our salary range is $55,000 to $65,000 annually. Candidates with additional experience or qualifications may be offered a salary outside of the range shown.
