One year of full time experience as a Police or Peace Officer OR one year of full time experience as a dispatcher for a public safety agency including fire departments emergency medical services or law enforcement OR one year of active service and an Honorable Discharge from the United States military where you served as a dispatcher or military policesecurity personnel OR 30 semester college credit hours from an accredited school. Must have a current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State.If you do not currently have a NYS Security Guard Photo ID you must obtain the required NYS Security Guard Photo ID within 90 days of your official start date to retain employment. Brief Description of Duties The University Police Communications & Security Specialist 1 is the 911 Emergency Operator and Dispatcher for the University Hospital and Long Island State Veterans Home. They act as an intermediary with Suffolk Police and EMS as well as maintains contact with various Fire Departments. · Operate as the 911 emergency operator for the University Police Department and coordinate the dispatch desk for the campus. Maintain radio contact with the mobile and foot patrols to coordinate activities. Serve as the main point of contact for persons on or off campus to request information about campus events request services and report emergencies. · Maintain a variety of logs and records of all law enforcement related activities. This includes but is not limited to the following tasks maintain equipment and radio logs in accordance with campus state and federal regulations. Operate the NYSPIN DMV and campus computer terminals. Familiarity with various police reports and understand the various filing systems. · Monitor the central station alarm systems which include CCTV intrusion and fire alarms. Assist vendors in testing equipment used in the desk area. · Continually view all surveillance monitors and dispatch patrols to investigate any unusual situations. · Identify monitor radio communications problems and report the situation to the appropriate supervisor. Notify proper authorities SCPD radio repair of any loss of radio system Components. · Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. Special Notes These are temporary part-time positions shifts and pass days varied. Night and weekend work required. FLSA Nonexempt positions eligible for overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. Hiring Rate 25.00 per hour.
