SUMMARY:Under supervision of nurse managers and according to established policies and procedures, provides clerical support to patient care activities in Emergency/Traum Center. Assists patients, and their families, undergoing or awaiting treatment. The core Success Factors include:Instill Trust and Value DifferencesPatient and Community Focus and CollaborateRESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for receiving and directing communications such as incoming calls from police, media, rescue drivers, physicians and others. Handles or reroutes same per department policy. Initiates related forms and/or records. Communicates with patients or patient families to provide general information regarding department operations or to request a return to the hospital. Provides or relays patient status as directed. Contacts private physicians, medical examiners and others as required. /Receives and responds to requests for paging of physicians and other hospital personnel including administration, maintenance, security and the like. Operates telephone and radio beepers according to established paging procedures and referring to standing reference lists as needed. /Upon request, notifies appropriate security agency of emergency treatments resulting from assaults, gunshots, animal bites, accidents and the like, according to state Department of Health regulations. /Greets patient in pediatric or walk-in clinics. Directs patient to treatment areas following department guidelines. /Completes physician orders for diagnostic tests and/or treatment/therapies. Utilizes on-line computer terminal to access Laboratory information System (LIS). /Utilizes Patient Managed Access System (PMAS) in order to enter, access and update patient and related hospital data such as orders, patient status and medical record information. /Maintains list of patients and updates as needed. Records patients placed on “danger” list and informs appropriate staff including telephone operators and Man Admitting. Updates computerized records as required to maintain department operating statistics. /Ensures that Emergency Department patient records are complete upon discharge as to content, including diagnosis and appropriate signatures and authorizations. Files charts according to procedure. Copies and distributes charges to designated areas. ssists quality assurance program by receiving, sorting, distributing and filing x-rays, laboratory reports and other test results and charts. /Performs other clerical duties as required such as ordering supplies, preparing schedules and reviewing records to obtain information related to a variety of studies. /Maintains knowledge of Emergency Disaster Pan. /Responsible for routing maintenance of fax machine, copier, printers and other office equipment.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:BASIC KNOWLEDGE:A level of knowledge generally obtained through completion of high school /Well developed interpersonal and communication skills in order to obtain and relay patient information, often under stressful conditions. /Knowledge of department procedures in order to evaluate and process same. /Knowledge of medical terminology. /The ability to operate on-line computer terminals. /EXPERIENCE:Three to six months of responsible work experience, preferably involving patient contact and the application and knowledge of medical terminology. /Familiarity with computers preferred. /SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None /

Pay Range:

$21.09-$22.04
