Summary
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and the supervision of the professional nurse, perform a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care unit operations.
Qualifications
Required:
- Computer literacy along with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers within 90 days of employment
Unit Specific
Medical Oncology:
Preferred:
- Must successfully complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) within six (6) months of hire or position entry.
BHS:
Preferred:
- Must successfully complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) within six (6) months of hire or position entry.
ICU:
Required:
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licensure in the State of Nevada.
Preferred:
- Must successfully complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) within six (6) months of hire or position entry.
Essential Functions
- Communicates with members of the health care team, patients, and visitors using oral and written means such as the telephone, and other communication devices. The use of appropriate and courteous communication must be maintained 100% of the time.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Adheres to HIPAA laws.
- Accurately stamps, assembles, completes and processes patients charts as indicated.
- Maintains accurate clinical records, documenting information as per the hospital policy.
- Monitors electronic and paper charts daily for incomplete histories, unsigned verbal orders and brings same to the attention of the appropriate member of the health care team for correction.
- Prepares special forms such as consent with patient's name pre-printed.
- Completes requests for non-medial services; e.g. spiritual counseling and is responsible for obtaining lab and x-ray reports, notifying nurses via a computer printout. Notify physician of results as per order.
- Maintains an orderly, clean and business-like environment at the nursing station and surrounding areas to assist members of the health care team in the performance of their jobs despite high stress factors.
- Maintains professional competence through formal education, workshops, and unit specific education. Maintains currency of educational file. Attends 80% or greater staff meetings, reviews and initials those meeting minutes not attended. Completes mandatory education and employee health requirements.
- Ability to act independently and make decisions under stress as required.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team with health care providers.
- Performs specified duties during a hospital wide emergency.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Unit Specific
Women's and Children's
- Address registration corrections as needed using appropriate EMR work queues.
- Assist nursing staff with cleaning protocols for triage area, including re-setting triage bay supplies.
- Assist nursing staff in obtaining lab results by contacting appropriate partners. Obtains and scans lab results into electronic EMR.
- Maintains working knowledge of downtime registration procedures. Performs downtime procedures with little or no assistance.
- Prepares unit-specific admission packets.
- Completes patient registrations as needed and adheres to patient identification processes.
