Underground (Microtrench) Operator

Job Summary
As the UG (Microtrench) Operator, you will ultimately be responsible for operating underground construction equipment, supporting utility locating and trenching activities, and ensuring safe and efficient project execution. You will coordinate field operations and equipment movement while delivering quality underground telecom infrastructure installations. As the UG (Microtrench) Operator, your customers are internal construction teams and external telecom clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company’s success through safety, operational efficiency, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to)
• Operate microtrenchers and various heavy machinery in a safe manner
• Inspect, maintain, and service equipment including drills, trucks, vacs, and trailers
• Assist with potholing, locating utilities, and preparing job sites for drilling operations
• Dig entry and exit pits and support drill setup and boring operations
• Monitor drilling process, tailings, and assist with product pullback and restoration
• Load, unload, and transport heavy equipment between job sites
• Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Valid driver’s license required

Experience
• Experience operating heavy equipment in construction, telecom, or utility environments
• Prior underground construction experience preferred

Skills and Abilities
• Ability to work in all weather conditions
• Ability to lift and carry up to 80 lbs
• Strong understanding of underground utility safety practices
• Ability to identify hazards and follow Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures
• Strong teamwork mindset aligned with GRIT values (Guts, Reliability, Innovation, Teamwork)

Preferred Qualifications
• Telecom, utility, or construction industry experience
• CDL license preferred
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
• First Aid certification preferred

Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift and carry up to 80 lbs
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods
• Outdoor work in all weather conditions
• Exposure to heavy equipment, traffic, noise, and uneven terrain
• Must be able to pass background check and drug screening
