JOB SUMMARY:

Performs quality Diagnostic Obstetric and Gynecologic Ultrasound exams and procedures, routine and emergent outpatient exams, for the purpose of diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of medical conditions. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathologies is required to assist physicians in preliminary interpretations of all studies performed. Performs Ultrasound examinations per department protocol and physician direction. Responsibilities for complete patient throughput include, but are not limited to procedures, supply inventory, general housekeeping, documentation, and communication with family, physicians and involved ancillary staff. Participates in department Quality Improvement activities and equipment quality control plans. Adheres to Corporate Compliance initiatives. Performs in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values of Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Maintains high professional and ethical standards as evidenced by successful completion of core competencies, clinical competencies, and behavior standards. Generally works under the direct supervision of the Ultrasound/Echo Manager and Practice Manager, however, may work independently as required. Dependent upon patient volumes and the needs of the Organization, employee may work varying shifts and/or assume these job duties at alternate sites within the healthcare system. Understanding that healthcare delivery is continually evolving, and departmental needs and goals are subject to change, responsibilities may be expanded or restricted at the discretion of the Ultrasound Manager and/or the Practice Manager and Department Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ultrasound Imaging: Perform a wide range of OB/Gyn diagnostic ultrasound exams, including fetal anatomy standard and detailed, fetal Doppler, bio-physical fetal profiles, transvaginal ultrasounds, assist with infertility work-ups, sonohysterograms, and gynecological exams
  • Patient Care: Ensure patient comfort and safety during the examination process. Explain procedures to patients and provide clear instructions to minimize discomfort. Demonstrates ability to assess basic patient needs including education, language translation, physical/mental impairment, or the need for physician/nursing intervention. Treats all patients with dignity and respect.
  • Image Quality: Operate ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality images, making adjustments to equipment settings as needed to optimize results.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient information, diagnostic images, and any related documentation in compliance with hospital or clinic protocols.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with radiologists and physicians to assess images and provide preliminary findings and observations to aid in diagnosis.
  • Patient History: Obtain and document patient medical history relevant to the ultrasound examination, ensuring accurate information is available for diagnosis. Contributes to planning, prioritization, and organizing of ultrasound workload.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Regularly check, clean, and maintain ultrasound equipment and rooms to ensure proper functioning and hygiene standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Adhere to industry standards and safety guidelines to ensure accurate and efficient diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Continuing Education: Stay updated on the latest advancements in sonography techniques, equipment, and medical research through ongoing education and professional development. May act as a preceptor or assist in the department orientation and education of new employees and students.
  • Patient Privacy: Ensure confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and institutional privacy policies.
