Position Summary The Truck Driver's responsibilities are to load, transport and unload construction materials, supplies and equipment to and from job sites in conformance with established procedures and protocols. This position requires a Commercial Driver's License and falls under the Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Rules and Regulations. This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Education, Training, Experience, Certifications, Licenses and Registrations

Education / higher education: High School Graduate or equivalent Minimum number of years of directly related experience: Six months of experience in truck operation and routine maintenance. Education and/or experience preferences: None Driver's License requirement: Commercial Drivers License Permit Required Endorsements: CDL Class B with Tanker endorsement Note -- For any driver, driving record must always meet City driving and insurability standards. Required certifications, licenses or registrations: Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of hire. Preferred certifications, licenses or registrations: None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • NM DOT Guidelines and Procedures
  • For Over the Road Transporting of materials and goods
  • Weight Limits - Height Limits
  • Traffic Control Devices etc.

Skills:

  • Operate heavy trucks
  • Load and unload construction materials and equipment both manually and with mechanical equipment
  • The operation of heavy truck maneuvering such as but not limited to; backing, loading, unloading, dumping, spread dumping and towing etc.

Abilities:

  • Comprehend and carry out simple verbal instructions
  • Recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers
  • Add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s and perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance

Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities

Internal:

  • Works with laborers, maintenance technicians, heavy equipment operators, and department supervisors to construct and repair City buildings on time and within cost. External:
  • Occasional interaction with the general public, customers, and public officials.

Essential Functions

The following functions are typical for this position. The omission of specific functions does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • To load, transport and unload construction materials, supplies and equipment to and from job sites in conformance with established procedures and protocols under the direction of the Division Supervisor.
  • Operates 5, 6, 10, and 12-yard dump trucks to transport sand, gravel or construction materials to and from the work site.
  • Transports equipment and loads and unload trucks by hand or with the use of mechanical equipment.
  • Operates tanker trucks to assist in the grading of unimproved roads.
  • Performs minor routine or preventative maintenance and repair on assigned vehicles.
  • Operates other small equipment and vehicles and performs manual labor as necessary.
  • Assists in clearing streets and roads during inclement weather or as needed.
  • Performs traffic control and other related duties as assigned.
