Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time tutors maximum of 10 hours per week for the OSU Upward Bound Program at our six target schools in the following locations Corvallis Albany Sweet Home McMinnville Hillsboro and Hood River.

Upward Bound Tutors work individually and with small groups of UB high school students to assist with their studies in Math algebra geometry trigonometry and calculus Science biology chemistry physics and anatomyphysiology and EnglishWriting over the course of the term week 2 through week 10 to help them better understand course material and prepare for assignments and exams. We are looking for one tutor in each of the academic areas but individuals who can work in two or more fields are preferred.

In addition to helping students with course content tutors share study strategies and demonstrate methods for how students can find the answers for themselves with the goal that through tutoring UB students build the skills that will enable them to experience greater academic success and excel in their classes.

Position Duties

Tutor Upward Bound students individually or in small groups and conduct tutoring sessions in designated areas for scheduled time slots. Serves as an academic resource to students by helping them understand apply and complete course content and assignments while modeling successful student activities. Maintain all records required to document students attendance and academic progress. Serve as mentors and act as role models to fellow Upward Bound participants. Chaperone field trips andor assist with postsecondary workshops when available. Assist at quarterly study sessions and studentparent orientation sessions. Group and individual meetings with supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be academically enrolled in a high school community college or university and pursuing a program or course of study

Must meet Academic Standing Requirements students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

High School student Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student 6 credit hours per term

Undergraduate international student 12 credit hours per term

Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School 5 credit hours per term

Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School 9 credit hours per term

International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services USCIS. A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services OIS and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position therefore the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.

Preferred Special Qualifications

Work study preferred Experience tutoring or mentoring students paid or unpaid Current or past TRiO CAMP EOP or LSAMP enrollmentinvolvement An understanding of the UB student population low-income potential first generation college students or students who have a high risk of academic failure.
