Position Summary

Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care and clinical support within the Surgical and Specialty Services Clinic under the supervision of a registered nurse or provider. Responsibilities include assisting with patient assessments, administering medications and treatments, documenting clinical information, coordinating care, and supporting a positive patient experience while ensuring high standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or provider
  • Obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, and clinical information
  • Administer medications, injections, and treatments as ordered
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and patient care activities
  • Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the healthcare team
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records documentation
  • Coordinate patient scheduling, referrals, and follow-up appointments
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and clinic policies
  • Support a positive, patient-centered environment through compassionate care and teamwork
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in one year of college, technical, vocational, or trade school in a Licensed Practical Nurse program with relevant course work in Pharmacology; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a hospital or ambulatory care clinic; requires computer experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Triage experience required.

Summary of Physical Demands

The job requires significant physical effort and involves lifting and maneuvering patients, extensive walking and standing and fine manual dexterity 26-75% of the time; visual and aural acuity necessary to monitor patient care.

Exposure to human blood, serum, and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three (3) feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
