Velocity Rail Solutions has been providing locomotive fueling, servicing, and specialized rail support since 1996. We operate under long-term fixed contracts with Class I Railroads, offering year-round, non-seasonal work. Our trucks run 24/7/365, ensuring stable pay and dependable schedules.

You will travel extensively and support multiple sites, ensuring uninterrupted service for our railroad partners.

Position Overview: What a Relief Driver Does

This role provides critical coverage when local drivers are on vacation or when open shifts need to be filled. Travel is constant and schedules vary by location. Flexibility is essential.

You will:

  • Fuel and service locomotives
  • Fill in across multiple states and locations as needed
  • Work overnights, weekends, and holidays depending on assignment

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys change, independence, and high earning potential.

Position Highlights

  • Travel Required: 75%100%

  • Paid travel time + hotel + car + per diem + fuel

  • Compensation: Hourly + travel pay

  • $1820 + weekly

  • Most committed Relief Drivers earn well over $125,000+ annually

  • Schedule: Rotating and variable shifts

  • All locations operate 12-hour shifts

  • Overtime: After 40 hours

  • Pay Frequency: Paid weekly

Responsibilities

Locomotive Fueling

  • Load, transport, and transfer red dyed diesel in tractor and full length tanker to locomotives
  • Fuel locomotives safely and efficiently on an on call basis during your shifts
  • Complete fueling logs and diesel accounting paperwork

Requirements & Qualifications

Licensing

  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Hazmat (H) and Tanker (N/X) endorsements
  • No Automatic Restriction

Experience

  • 1 year verifiable tractor-trailer experience

Background & Compliance

  • Must pass all company, customer, and federal background checks
  • Must not be prohibited under FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
  • Valid DOT medical card
  • Clean MVR (no major violations)

Skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Moderate computer skills
  • Reliable, safety-focused, and willing to travel
  • Live within the hiring radius IL, IN, PA, or NJ

Physical Requirements

  • Bend, stoop, kneel, climb on/off elevated surfaces
  • Climb into/out of truck cabs & locomotives multiple times daily
  • Walk long distances on uneven surfaces
  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs frequently
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
  • Work with non-hazardous liquid & dry bulk materials
