Patient Types:

o Most common is high risk pregnancy patients

Patient Ratios:

o 1:1

Required Certifications:

o BLS

o ARDMS with specialty in OBGYN

Skills required:

• Advanced knowledge of fetal abnormalities and their diagnosis.
• Proficient in performing scans of various anatomical areas and identifying cross sectional human anatomy, distinguishing normal from abnormal, to establish initial evaluation of sonograms.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
• Basic computer proficiency (e.g. email, electronic medical records).

Support on the Unit:

o MAs: 3

o Receptionist/HUC: 3

o Charge nurse: No charge, 5 RNs on staff

o Resource Nurse: 2

o 4 MFM Physicians/3 NP

o 5-6 sonographers in department daily

o EMR: EPIC and AS OB/GYN software

o GE Voluson Ultrasound machines

Orientation:

o Typically 2 weeks or until competent with workflow
