Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist Profession: Ultrasound Tech Specialty: Ultrasound Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 4x10s; Mon-Thu; 1930-0600 Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: ARDMS-RVT or vascular experience preferred Certifications: BLS (AHA Only), RDMS or ARRT Must-Have: 2 years minimum experience Description: The Ultrasound Technologist performs ultrasound procedures under general supervision of a Radiologist or physician. They perform ultrasound procedures in an ambulatory and/or hospital environment as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols. This role requires performing high-quality ultrasound procedures according to exam protocols in a timely manner. The technologist maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures. They utilize effective communication techniques when interacting with patients to identify service requirements, ensure correct exams are performed on the correct patients, and establish rapport. The technologist instructs and communicates with patients and their families regarding the tests to be performed and assesses the patient's ability to tolerate the exam. They prepare the patient and area for procedures by positioning the patient, adjusting immobilization devices, and setting up the equipment controls. The technologist protects patients and team members by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control, drug, and radiation policies, and techniques. They use proper sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures and maintain hand hygiene requirements. The technologist maintains equipment and work areas to meet quality and cleanliness standards. They work with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment and report issues to management. This role assists in maintaining supplies inventory and ensures safety by screening individuals entering the department according to approved policies and procedures. The technologist obtains, verifies, and maintains all relevant documentation such as requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status, consent forms, and policies. Imaging team members are expected to adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and workflows. They maintain medical imaging records according to departmental policies and standards for timely interpretation. The technologist must be able to explain procedures to patients and alleviate their concerns. They should provide services timely, accurately, and cost-efficiently in compliance with established standards, policies, and procedures. The role requires performing tasks independently without routine oversight while maintaining a professional and helpful attitude. Being able to administer first aid and use emergency equipment is essential. Customer satisfaction must be ensured by limiting wait times, providing courteous service, and remaining professional at all times. Continued education and the ability to care for various age groups including newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric patients are required. The technologist may serve as a trainer by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives. This role may require taking call when necessary. The Ultrasound Technologist must be committed to effective service delivery, integrity, and teamwork.
