Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to departmental protocols. Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain quality diagnostic studies. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in utilizing equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Verifies proper clinician order for procedures. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and that right and left markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews ultrasound images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients accordingly. Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment as needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations to ensure timely physician intervention when necessary. Verifies the correct identity of patients using two unique identifiers prior to performing procedures. Ensures patient privacy and comfort are accommodated while maintaining dignity throughout the exam or procedure. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Uses critical thinking skills and engages in communication with patients and their families. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders and demonstrates an understanding of pre-procedural verification processes. Prepares patients for procedures while demonstrating and understanding sterile techniques. Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients clearly and patiently prior to starting procedures. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees as needed. Ensures documentation is concise, legible, and uses precise terminology. Maintains communication by reading emails daily and follows through on assignments. Completes mandatory departmental and educational requirements without prompting. Produces acceptable images consistently, as evidenced by provider feedback and quality audits. Ensures equipment is operational prior to each use, checking for proper calibration and any operating deficiencies. Sends all studies to the relevant systems immediately after completion. Maintains quality control logs for probe disinfection and adheres to infection control policies. Restocks linens and supplies and keeps the department in a clean and orderly condition. Transports and positions patients, assisting them on and off procedure tables as needed. Maintains an individual productivity rate equal to that of co-workers. Demonstrates the ability to adjust techniques to optimize patient safety and image quality. Reports any equipment malfunctions in a timely manner. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment per infection control policies and cleaning schedules. Performs other duties as assigned.
