Job Title: Ultrasound Tech Profession: Ultrasound Technician Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 8 hours (230 PM - 11 PM) Experience: Minimum 1 year clinical experience preferred License: Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) Certifications: BLS, ARDMS or ARRT-S Must-Have: - Must exhibit excellent communication skills. - Ability to function independently and under pressure. - Must possess excellent customer service skills. - Must be detail-oriented and capable of multitasking. Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams per department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Verifies proper clinician orders for procedures. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and that right and left markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews ultrasound images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient conditions and properly evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies correct identity of patients using 2 unique identifiers prior to performing procedures. Ensures patients' privacy and comfort are accommodated and maintains their dignity throughout the exam/procedure. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physicians' instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Uses critical thinking skills and dialogs with patients and families. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders and understands preprocedural verification. Demonstrates and understands pre-and post-procedural care and sterile technique. Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients prior to procedures to minimize anxiety. Ensures patients' questions and concerns are satisfactorily addressed. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures. Ensures required documentation is concise, legible, and uses precise terminology. Completes mandatory departmental and education requirements. Consistently produces acceptable images, as evidenced by feedback and audits. Ensures equipment is operational prior to each use, checking for calibration and deficiencies. Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion. Completes all studies in RIS before finishing in PACS. Maintains quality control logs for probe disinfection and follows infection control policies. Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining the department in a clean and orderly condition. Transports and positions patients, helping them on and off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities when services are rendered. Applies supportive and immobilization devices and equipment as needed. Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others upon request. Performs routine duties of clerical personnel as needed to ensure service continuity. Informs supervisors of all responsibilities on an ongoing basis. Maintains individual productivity rate equal to colleagues. Demonstrates ability to operate all workstations within the department. Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to supervisors. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to policies. Performs other duties as assigned.
