Job Title: Virtual Monitor Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 hours Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years in a related work position License: Yes Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Graduation from an accredited program, including EKG Interpretation. Minimum 2 years of recent related work experience. Advanced Dysrhythmia exam must be passed prior to acceptance. Must be available for 2-3 days of day shift for orientation. Description: This complex position is responsible for performing remote surveillance for multiple locations. The focus is on cardio-pulmonary rhythms via a central monitoring station. Technicians will recognize, record, and report potentially dangerous rhythm changes and arrhythmias. This will be done following established standards and procedures per applicable regulatory requirements. Work is primarily performed in a centralized monitoring unit. The position is under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Each technician can potentially monitor up to 60 patients due to advanced IT technology capabilities. Incumbents will accurately recognize cardiac rhythms and follow command center policy. They are expected to take appropriate action and notify local RN staff of changes in cardiac rhythm and arrhythmias. Proper communication channels must be followed in routine and emergency situations. All established protocols and procedures are to be followed. Candidates should strive to improve patient outcomes and department metrics. Supervisors and a Director will be available for support. The department uses monitoring equipment including GE and Ascom. Shifts are 12 hours long, with flexible scheduling. Weekend work is required, with a minimum of 4 weekend shifts during a schedule. Holiday work may also be required. There is no mandatory call or standby requirement, but it may occur based on census levels. There are opportunities for cross-training to other roles within the department. Dress code is business casual. Unit-specific orientation will be provided, including a mandatory in-person session during go-live with the associated technology team. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment. The charting system used is Cerner.
